Arkupal Ra Acharya
I have always been interested in people and stories and have always wanted to be a writer. I ended up studying literature in college and university because of this. Moving out of the remote corner of the North-East of India and going to college in Delhi was an eye-opener as I met many different people from various parts of the country. It was the first time that the diversity of my country struck me and my years in college and university there also made me realise the importance of holding on to my roots.
This made me value my own language and literature more and I returned home to re-learn my language. This has led to my current research where I’m looking at the voices of protest in the poetry of the tea garden labour community of Assam.
